SteveFoehl ’72 is the executive director of the New Jersey State Golf Association and has been serving as a USGA walking rules official at the U.S. Open for two decades. In an article in the Asbury Park Press (NJ), Steve talks about what it takes to become an official at the Open, and shares stories about golf icons like Jack Nicklaus, Fred Couples, and Tom Kite.
“So we’re coming off the 15th hole at Olympic and Nicklaus ducks under the ropes and starts walking away,” Foehl said. “Finally, he turns around and points to a port-a-john and says, ‘Now that you’re 50 you’ll have to worry about this.’ “
